Chicago Bulls v. Houston Rockets…and the Rockets with a big win!!!

Thank goodness I made it home from work, just in time to catch the second half of the game. And thank goodness the Rockets played hard tonight and finally left that losing streak behind them…just in time for thanksgiving.

3rd QUARTER: 65 to 66

I barely got to see Lin play b/c right when I started watching the game, Lin got benched, but from what the commentators were saying, tonight was not a good game for Lin at all. He got called on fouls, he had 5 TO (his highest so far of the season), and he even got called for a travel. A travel?! I don’t even remember ever hearing Lin getting called on a traveling violation in any of the games I’ve seen!!! Because of that, Tony Douglas was put in and played the remaining 8+ min of the 3rd quarter.

FINAL SCORE: 89 to 93

The 4th quarter started out with a Bang, literally, with Parsons starting out with a basket. Parsons played very well tonight and this game gave him his 4th double double of the season and it’s still very early in the season. Last year, Parsons only had 2 double doubles the ENTIRE season…which just goes to show that Parsons is playing better and better. Two other players that really stood out to me tonight were Asik and Douglas. I always love the way Asik plays…and I think most people would agree with me. He is a big guy and since he was playing against his former teammates (b/c the Bulls couldn’t match Houston’s offer)…I would think they would know all his weaknesses and be able to match them or that his size wouldn’t allow him to move so quickly, but I would be wrong. He is always rebounding and always coming through to his teammates block after block. Whenever Asik isn’t on the floor…I feel like Houston’s defense goes down. Another star player tonight was Douglas. I praised Douglas’ play in my last post and I will do it again. Douglas replaced Lin within the last 2 min of the game and that move mad a big impact. Douglas had an incredible 3ptr with 1:11 min left in the game and continued to play well, with 9 pts in the 4th quarter.

Two things I was not happy about: 1) Lin was fouled from behind in the 4th quarter and the refs did not even call it b/c they claimed to not have seen it!!! 2) The fact that Sampson withdrew Lin from the game with only 2 min left to play in the final quarter. This time, putting Douglas in helped the team…but some of the other games, I feel like having Lin in would have made a difference. I am NOT mad that Douglas played instead of Lin…I am mad that Sampson (in my opinion) doesn’t trust or have enough confidence to let Lin finish the games. I think this in turn will affect Jeremy’s confidence in himself and if the interim coach doesn’t have confidence in Jeremy, then it will affect how his teammates will also see Jeremy’s skills. Parson’s please give Jeremy a confidence pep talk!!! I know Landry would have done it for Jeremy…and right now Parson’s has kinda taken Landry’s place. They need to work out together, practice one on one, or do some couch surfing or something…whatever will make Parson’s high stats rub off on Jeremy!!!!

Top 5 Scorers: ( I can’t believe my Jeremy didn’t even make the top 5 list of the night!!!)

1) Harden: 28 pts, 4 rbds, 3 ast

2) Patterson: 20 pts, 8 rbds, 1 ast

3) Parsons: 18 pts, 13 rbds, 2 ast

4) Douglas: 11 pts, 3 rbds, 2 ast

5) Smith: 8 pts, 4 rbds, 1 ast

Video Highlights:

On another note….tomorrow is the holiday of “Thanksgiving” here in the states. Through his foundation, Jeremy invited Coach Sampson to help him distribute turkey and other food items to the less fortunate in the Houston area.

Go here for the video clip: Jeremy gives back for Thanksgiving

No matter how he plays on the court, I will always be a Jeremy Lin fan for what this guy does off the court. I know the NBA players try to regularly give back to the community, but something tells me that Jeremy would have done something like this regardless of his star power.

Regardless of whether or not you celebrate Thanksgiving, I hope everyone finds a reason to give thanks and to feel blessed! I am thankful for many things this year, some superficial and some really important, but I wanted to take a moment and thank everyone who reads this blog and everyone who continues to support Jeremy Lin and in turn supports my guilty pleasure!! You all really make my day!!!

This is a long and despondent stretch for Jeremy. I am not a basketball professional and I don’t know what has made Jeremy in this situation. They won the game but Jeremy seemed to be invisible in the winning, that’s the most heartbreaking! Some professional comments blame that the coaches have not figured out how to help Jeremy as he is still young and lacks experience. Jeremy does need a very good coach to point out his weakness and help him improve, and help him excel. The most weird is Jeremy’s shooting. This has never happened before even when he was a nobody. I believe Jeremy is now experiencing the toughest time he has ever encountered. I will always support him as he is so unique that what happens to him touches people’s hearts so much. I don’t believe a story starting with something like Linsanity would have a mediocre end or a frustrating end. Not sure if this is a crucible from God. If it is, why?
I won’t be able to watch Jeremy’s games vs Knicks and the others in a few weeks as I will be traveling. But I sincerely hope he finds himself back to prove to the coach and his teammates and fans and critics/haters that he will never give up and he will not be beaten. I wish this Thanksgiving is the time for his revival!

@ic…this was very well said! It was like I was happy the Rockets won this game, but at the same time it was a very low night for Jeremy, which broke my heart a little bit. I can’t say that I blame the coaches or anyone else…it could be a lot of things, though I don’t think that Sampson has much confidence in Jeremy. And I’ll be watching and reporting the game against the Knicks tonight and I will try to report on as many games as I can watch for you and the others who can’t. Safe travels ic!!! Hope it’s a fun vacation and not a business trip!

Happy Thanksgiving Day AnnaK!!! Enjoy! :)

  3. As I’ve said, we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving on my side of the Atlantic, but I am forever grateful to have met my LinLadies. ;-)

    • mber says:

We don’t have Thanksgiving in the PH as well. But Happy Thanksgiving just the same to Anna-K and LinLadies/LinBabies in the US. =] Here’s a funny vid Asian Thanksgiving from the Fung Bros (YouTube stars who are old fans of JLin) http://bit.ly/Sgkj7W

      • ksoranna says:

thanks @fauxy and mber!! And Mber…I just watched the video link you provided…and that’s exactly how my family celebrates thanksgiving lol. we have turkey, ham, and side dishes with rice and other “asian” dishes and our fish sauce and hot sauce. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

  4. mber says:

Hey y’all =] We’re still alive, yeah? I really needed a hug but too proud to admit it..sniff. Aaah…I stayed away from forums (fora?), blogs, Twitter feeds abt JLin for nearly 3 weeks b/c I’m afraid the hate would break me. Especially the one slowly seeping out of so-called JLin fans b/c he’s not delivering Linsanity numbers. Sometimes, it’s just too much…and I found out from catching up 2 days ago that it’s made worse by his scoring slump.

You know what got me out of my funk? It’s the wake-up call and the needling I got from the men in my life (brothers, friends, ex-boyfriends) who are all rabid Lakers/Celtics fans. They teased me…how easily I (seem to) give up on JLin, on his 2nd season…his first as a starter. My ex casually reminded me of how in the late 90s as I raved over one Jason Kidd, he was pulling for Steve Nash…a mere backup for Kidd. And that it took Nash 4 years before he had a breakout season. Four! That JLin’ stats on his ‘scoring slump’ is similar to Nash’s best pre-breakout. It is harder for JLin b/c he became a (pioneering) superstar first before a solid player.

At this point, Jer is playing off a major injury…we can opine all we want, think of what-if scenarios and put blame on anyone just to make sense of what’s happening but only he knows his body/mind. We could only hope that he regains his confidence and full strength. Let’s pray for him. One thing I love about this dude…he made heaps of people prayerful. No shit.

Have you seen this video? http://bit.ly/Y67e69 A writer for Grantland who is black talked about Obama and how he gave hope and changed the landscape with a groundbreaking speech. 6:18 of the video is how I feel exactly about Jeremy. If he had that Feb-Mar 2012 awesome run…blowing everyone’s mind, pushing all the rich and lazy NBA players to step up their game and redirecting the course of so many people’s lives….and that’s all he did and disappeared….that’s all I really need from him.

    • Thank you for this, mber.

      • mber says:

No problemo, Chris =] Just read your comments in the previous posts. Thanks vm for being a calm presence while some of us we’re having our not-so-quiet ‘meltdowns’ hehehe

    • J says:

Thank you mber, please if you could send this to Jeremy too? :)
It’s so important to remind him and the fans too, all great players, especially point guards, have to go through some really tough early years to gain these skills on the court. Yes and it’s even thougher for Jeremy because before he could gain sufficient experience, he is already the focus on the floor, every player of the opponent team would just love to embarrass him with every chance they get. This is so much like the case of Yao, but Yao after a couple of years, was such a solid all-star player too.
I think all these struggles, Jeremy will go through for sure, but I had all teary eyes when I watched Jeremy’s post game interview today (vs Bulls). I hope so hard that he would regain his confidence soon, he would go through this struggle soon and coming out a better and stronger player.
He has all the shooting skills he needs, it’s a mental obstacle somewhere in that stubborn brain that blocks the right decision at the right time with the right muscle movement to get the ball in.
Jeremy, we always root for you, no matter if it takes 4 years or 5 or 6. We know you will make it one day. I believe. We believe.

    • ksoranna says:

hugs to mber and to all the other Lin Ladies!!!! mber…I know exactly what you mean. before I used to never miss a game no matter what but now I am not as “excited” as I was before because Jeremy is not playing at the level that we all expect of him. But as I’ve always stated…I will probably always be a JLin fan…unless he becomes this horrible person that I can no longer praise (which I highly doubt), not just for his basketball skills but for what he represents on and off the court. And thanks for that video link…it was really nice to hear all those different perspectives. I am going to add it to my next post. Let’s hope they beat the Knicks (it’s kinda weird to wish that now lol) but if they don’t …then here’s to staying positive!!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I’m gonna post as a girly fan:

    1. The 3 hottest players in the Rockets roster now:
    a. Lin
    b. Parsons
    c. Morris
if I’m gonna put stereotyping it’ll be like this:
Lin is the ‘S’ guy – shy, silent, smiling friendly dude
Parsons is the Mr. Popular who is playing practical jokes on everybody
Morris is the indifferent tough guy who is really a teddy bear at heart

    2. I seriously want McHale back NOW.
    3. I almost didn’t recognize Leslie Alexander watching in the stands.when the camera zoomed on him I don’t know but my mind went, “hey it’s David Stern?” like wth?
    4. some sweet post from the Rockets-Bulls thread:
“@Louise – Lin never said he will be the next Michael Jordan..This guy does not deserve all the hateful remarks against him. Not an NBA fan.not even a basketball fan. My husband is. I just noticed NBA lately because of these whole hateful crowd against Lin. It’s sad how people treated him and is treating him.. He just want to play and improve…following his passion..I think he is the most humble person in the NBA..a great man! I agree with KJChi 100%, a lot of people are just so mean to him…The true LIN FAN never said he is the greatest, nor he himself said that…I would rather have my kids look up to a dleaguer, (as they call him) than to some narcissistic egomaniac who thinks he is the greatest thing that ever happen to the NBA.”

5.on a basketball context, this line-up would work for Rockets:
    Omer Asik – Center
    Cole Aldrich – Power Forward
    Marcus Morris – Small Forward
    Daequan Cook – Shooting guard
    Jeremy Lin – Point guard
Chandler Parsons – swing in games.play SF one game, SG the next
James Harden – relegate him back as the 6th man
    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

@Michelle…feel free to post as a fangirl. I’m like the queen of fangirls here lol. 1) you have good taste in men…though it’s not hard b/c the Rockets have a lot of eye candy :-) Of course with Jeremy being my #1 and Parsons my #2. and 2) you are not alone in wanting McHale back. I think everyone is wishing the same thing b/c he treats Jeremy different…it’s so obvious to me so I am sure it’s also obvious to Jeremy as well that Sampson thinks different of him. And 3) any true fan would support Jeremy no matter what…win or lose!

  6. GiaKiem says:

Jeremy is the only celebrity that I idolize . I refuse to believe that he doesn’t have any basketball skill/ talent. I pray God please give him strength and wisdom to go through this slump. I myself have to retain myself from reading news/articles/forum so I don’t have to read those hateful comments about him. I wish some great coach please just come and tutor him on the side. Please Jeremy, please don’t give up! We fans love you so much , and it hurts to see you like this.

    • He is human – he is bound to go through a slump at one point – all players do.

    • ksoranna says:

@GiaKiem…we all already know how talented he is at this game. He is going through a bad slump right now for whatever reason. we can only just continue to be there in spirit and to cheer him on without losing hope. He will really need it tonight!! Let’s go Rockets!

  7. You might wanna check this video out, how he feels when he was benched during the Chicago game (PS: I just love the angle of this video. I am seeing his MOLED, which I adore…. ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxNPpQJ2f38
